I’m fully cognizant that these arguments which I’m espousing has much to do with the recipient’s intellectual acumen, or lack of it, gullibility, downright stupidity, a self-serving need or even an obsession to be regarded as “cool” and being with it. A compulsive requirement to be socially accepted by one’s supposed social betters or vaingloriously proselytized so-called celebrities or the privileged “elites who see it as a fashion statement to culpably, asininely and most self-evidently to the utter detriment of one’s health, I must say, indulge in something that’s patently, except in one’s delusional state of mind, does no good whatsoever to the person or individuals purposely involved in the practice they’re participating in, while on the contrary irrefutably does a considerable deal of harm and furthermore is inevitably fatal.
Smoking is undoubtedly one such hazardous practice and even if sensible and intelligent people are to either believe or be persuaded, why so baffles me entirely, that living in a democracy entitles individuals who’ve reached the age of “maturity” to make whatever personal choices they see fit in relation to their own life, such an argument in my view loses its cogency and significance when the inevitable repercussions of such an act or multiple likeminded activities not only occasion well perceived harm to those individuals concerned but also senselessly inconveniences others not of the perpetrators’ viewpoint in the process, as well as putting innocent bystanders, either unwittingly or unwillingly, in grave danger as well.
For the harm caused to non-smokers by the actions of smokers is well-documented. And to put it bluntly, unapologetically and factually debilitating and lethal outcomes like cancer can and do occur as a result. And for smokers to claim that it’s their right to smoke while at the same time callously, insensitively or idiotically seriously endanger not only their own lives but far more significantly the personal health of others who have a distinct aversion towards or even a marked disgust of smoking for whatever valid, sensible and pertinent reasons they can coherently espouse is the height of impertinence on the part of these smoking aficionados whose behaviour is more akin to a conceited and braindead bunch of inured Mafiosi than by any stretch of the imagination reasonable and compos mentis individuals. And all this on top of the huge financial burden in terms of long-term care when their repulsive habit goes awry and turns then predictably into witless and unnecessary National Health Service patients.
And ask yourselves this question. If someone quite deliberately walked into a public room or enclosure: a doctor’s surgery, train, bus or airport waiting room or restaurant for example and is then observed fiddling with what is evidently a hand grenade would you stand idly by and not say or do anything to deter that person from engaging in what they’re doing? And if on being approached by someone else and with that complainant having politely outlined to the perpetrator of that ongoing activity a natural and sensibly request that he or she desists from what they’re doing only to be brusquely told that they’re simply exercising their democratic and constitutional right within that country to do what they want, would you buy that lame and senseless argument and meekly settle for that person’s ludicrous and idiotic response? So why then do you tolerate smoking in any public place which can be just as lethal as a hand grenade, except that death inflicted by a hand grenade is instantaneous while that from the effects of smoking, whether directly so or through secondary smoking - the inhaling of the smoke from other peoples’ smoking – is invariably protracted and consciously destructive.
I'm a highly intelligent, articulate and well-educated human being with an intuitive but enterprising sense of responsibility and a strong moral compass that instinctively demarcates what's right and wrong.
Trust, confidentiality and having the courage, regardless of what I do, to formulate and stand by my own personal convictions are key aspects of my life and, unsurprisingly, are also principal characteristics I attach great importance to and naturally expect from those who want to play a meaningful role in my life.
I don't suffer fools gladly, in fact not at all and most definitely haven’t got any interest in or time for egotists, time-wasters, attention seekers or the narcissistic.
Furthermore, I’m an adult and in my private and professional lives prefer to deal with genuine adults, so anyone who wants to act childishly and thinks they can have any kind of relationship with me, then you’re wrong!
And my advice to you in that regard is to go and enrol in a kindergarten as you'll possibly have better luck there.
